The Social Impacts of Economic Imbalances and Potential Solutions

It is clear that we are going through difficult times. People's purchasing power has drastically diminished. Incomes are no longer sufficient to cover expenses—if there is any income at all. People are forced to pay large sums to meet their needs, and by needs, I am referring to basic necessities: housing and food. Economic balances are deeply shaken.
These imbalances not only affect the standard of living for individuals but also lead to social unrest, health issues, and reduced educational opportunities. Especially the difficulty in accessing basic needs like housing and food is exacerbating social inequalities. The decline in income levels is eroding people's confidence in the future and negatively affecting social cohesion.

Root Causes of Economic Problems
The roots of the current economic challenges are multifaceted. Global inflation, rising unemployment rates, political instability, and inadequate economic policies have all aggravated the situation. Additionally, the decrease in private and public investments, the rising costs of production, and the contraction in the labor market are impacting the standard of living for many people.

Global Inflation and High Costs: The global supply-demand imbalance following the pandemic, rising energy prices, and disruptions in supply chains have rapidly increased the cost of basic goods and housing. This, in turn, has led to a widening income gap and further impoverishment of low-income households.

Unemployment and Insufficient Income: High unemployment rates are making it difficult for individuals to secure a stable income. This is particularly affecting young people and those with lower levels of education, reducing social mobility and slowing down economic growth.

Proposed Solutions
Addressing these economic challenges requires comprehensive and sustainable solutions. Both governments and civil society organizations must develop long-term strategies to correct these imbalances.

1. Reassessing Economic Policies: Governments need to revisit tax policies and income distribution models to create a fairer economic system, particularly for lower-income groups. Tax reductions, increased social assistance, and incentives for underprivileged groups can help increase purchasing power.

2. Education and Employment Programs: To tackle unemployment, vocational training programs should be expanded, and policies that facilitate access to the labor market should be implemented. Opportunities for training and employment should be created, particularly in sectors such as technology, renewable energy, and healthcare.

3. Supporting Local Production and Consumption: To reduce food and housing costs, local production must be prioritized. Sustainable projects in agriculture, cooperatives, and support for small-scale producers can increase employment and reduce the prices of basic goods.

4. Comprehensive Solutions for Housing Issues: Housing, as a fundamental human right, should be redefined, and social housing projects should be supported. Affordable, sustainable housing solutions should be developed for low-income families, and these projects should be expedited.

5. Psychosocial Support and Developing Solidarity Networks: Economic problems also bring about a need for psychological and social support. Therefore, psychosocial support services that help individuals cope with the challenges they face should be expanded. Community-based solidarity networks can be established, and support mechanisms can be created through civil society organizations.
