A sip of water

A sip of water

They say, "Love is finding oneself in another." But in truth, "Love is thinking you've found yourself in another." This poem is for those in love.
I fell into the desert, I wanted a sip of water
It became a mirage, my eyes filled with sand
Please speak, I miss your breath so much
When news came from the one you love

Love is a lifetime of sleepless nights
The syllable on your lips as you die
Suddenly solves the great riddle
When your bangs touch your forehead

My fire won't go out, why do you torment me so?
Is it not fair? An answer to the question, my smile
My hope and my smile have become my enemies
When autumn strikes my heart

If I were painted in your color, I would be you
On your raki table, a strong tea
Sail to the wind, set your course to the compass
When mercy touches the earth

The noble never wavers, honey never spoils
Even Baghdad is not asked of the lover
My sigh subsides, one does not always weep
When my love gives its answer
